Departing

Departing

Day 2 of The Upper Room’s Academy for Spiritual Formation

The Lord proclaims:
Stop at the crossroads and look around;
    ask for the ancient paths.
    Where is the good way?
Then walk in it
and find a resting place for yourselves. [Jeremiah 6:16, Common English Bible]

Today’s word: Departing. Departing from what? From old ways of doing and being. From those ill-formed habits that are toxic to the soul, or that leave us walking around like zombies, rather than people who have had God’s breath of life breathed into them.

I.

How good it is to center.
Rope from barn to house.
Stand at the crossroads and ask.

II.

Stand at the crossroads and ask.
Stand. Look. Ask and walk.
What’s your way to the Holy?

III.

Live though the kindom is here,
visible to us.
And yet, there is more to come.

IV.

Discernment the church knows not.
Metrics. Goals. Benchmarks.
Listen. Recognize. Then act.

V.

Interrupt those ill-formed ways.
For in that space is
awareness that God exists.

VI.

Today I sat with Jesus.
But my back was turned.
Oh, so you’e been there before?
